Configuring and Installing Windows 10 with Rufus
Rufus, the popular tool for creating and managing USB drives as bootable install media, can be used to configure and install Windows 10 from a downloaded image. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it:
Prerequisites
- Rufus installed and configured
- A valid Windows 10 ISO file (downloaded from Microsoft’s official website)
- Your USB drive ready to be used as bootable media
Creating the Bootable Media
Before we dive into the configuration, make sure you’ve created a bootable media using Rufus. To do this:
- Open Rufus and select the Windows 10 ISO file you want to install.
- Choose “Create from File” under the “Bootable Image Files” section.
- Select your USB drive as the device where you want the installation files to be saved.
Configuring the USB Drive
Now that your media is created, let’s configure it:
- Insert your USB drive into a free USB port on your computer.
- Open Rufus again and select “Set Boot Order”.
- Change the boot order to have Rufus set as the first device (usually at the top).
- Save the changes.
Installing Windows 10
Now, let’s install Windows 10:

- Enter your language and keyboard preferences (optional).
- Select “Something else” for the “Time zone” field if necessary.
- Accept the terms of service and any additional license agreements.
- Wait for Rufus to start preparing the installation media…
